   BeOS software for Fidonet.

The goal of Walther Project is to bring Fidonet technologies to BeOS. But writing FidoNet mail system from scratch is very hard and time consuming work. Thank's God, some work was already done by other guys and is available in source code. All I need, was try to adapt (port) that programs to BeOS and say "Thank" to that guys. There are two packages of Fidonet software for BeOS. The first one is CrashMail-based that was ported and adapted for BeOS by me. The second one is based on Husky portable fido-software and was ported by Husky-team and currently maintained under BeOS by Paul Galashin. Below is detailed information about that packages.

 ChrashMail-based package

This package consists from following applications-components:
  • qico
Mailer for dial-up links. Written and maintained by Pavel Kurnosoff and Lev Serebryakov. BeOS port based on stable (0.48.x) branch. Home page of original qico is here ...
  • CrashMail II
Echomail and netmail manager. Originally written by Johan Billing. Home page of original version can be found here ...
  • gtic
Fileecho manager. Originally written by Yuri Kuzmenko and patched by many of other nice guys. For BeOS port was used patched sources that can be found here ...
  • FMA
FidoNet Mail Access library. It was written by Pete Kvitek. It provides access to most popular FidoNet messagebases formates - JAM, Squish, FTS-1. Original sources can be found here ...
  • Walther
FidoNet mail editor written from scratch with BeOS ideology in mind. It's original project of Siarzhuk Zharski

CrashMail II BeOS port
Posted: November 2nd, 2001
Updated: March 31st, 2003

This is a port of famous CrashMail II FidoNet tosser. This version contains additions from original 0.62 version. There are some versions - one with only BFS messagebase support, second with Squish, JAM and FTS-1 messagebases support that uses Fidonet Mail Access written by Pete Kvitek. To work with FMA version you need also download FMA BeOS binaries. And the last one is "classical" version with JAM and MSG support as designed by original CrashMail version. The BFS and FMA-driven versions are not supported anymore - so use "classical" CrashMail version instead.

Updated: November 9th, 2002

BinkleyTerm is a freely available FidoNet compatible electronic mail interface and dumb terminal package. This means it's a program for receiving and sending mail and files within FidoNet or other Fido Technology Networks. BinkleyTerm was written by Vince Perriello and Bob Hartman. It is copyright 1987-1996 by Bit Bucket Software, Co. "BinkleyTerm" and "Freely Available" are trademarks of Bit Bucket Software, Co. BeOS port is based on linux version of BTXE. There are two versions of BTXE - first one is to be used as standalone mailer, second one uses husky fidotools configuration for main system settings. Be careful getting right version.

We have some changes in our Team! Paul Galashin (wbleys) has joined us. Welcome Paul!
We are migrating to Husky fido tools
    zharik - 2002-06-27 01:52   -   Walther-Fido package for BeOS
We are going to use actively developed Husky fido tools for our next distributions. The Crashmail + gtic + etc. branch looks like freezed and will be not improved. There are no resources to continue work on it. There is also some problems with qico mailer. Current BeOS-portable branch 0.48.* is not updated for long time. Branch 0.49.* was redesigned radically and looks like will be not portable anymore on BeOS. Thank you guys! =-( But we hope on our success with BeOS port of BinkleyTerm XE. It is on the way. Some modem-handling problems still stay on but we still hope. Husky-related updates coming soon !!! Do not go away for a long time!
